Thesis 2009/2010

A summary on the thesis presentation that i've seen in this two days.
Some are really interesting, some are just a mess.
It can be clearly differentiate which design schemes they use a semester to develope and those that only use days.
It is a competition between seniors and laziness, not the panels.

The mature of design evolves only one matter: TO WHICH EXTEND HAVE YOU CONSIDER?
Did you understand why you are doing the design? Did you consider the entrance welcoming sense? Did you notice the pros and cons of such scheme? Did you see the potential of material usages? Did you design the spaces according to the old space functions or innovatively develope the place making?

My confusion on thesis:
1. How do the panels grade the concept? innovative? revitalise? The concept proposed these days are so vague. There goes the application of concept too.
2. The emphasis on the whole thesis.. is it on the concept, design process, outcome, or what? Why this year it seems that the panels are mostly interested only on the technical drawings?
3. How on earth some seniors dare to print such horrible perspectivesss.. plain, meaningless, proof of last minute work.
4. What is a good thesis actually?

*Bare in mind, Xinyi*
Be professional ----- presentation boards, verbal presentation.
Be hardworking ----- remember the difference of 1.1x1.1 and 0.9x0.9. Do or die.
Be yourself ----- enjoy it or you will not be able to proceed far.

All the best of future undertakings of seniors.
Good luck to me. Cheers~~~

  1. thesis/design cannot be a finished product because you can continue exploring till end of time. therefore sometimes we explore till last minute (or sometimes ideas kena ban till last minute). the skills comes in handy during the last few days. some will just give up, some just post up blurry perspective. unacceptable, yet.

a mature design is a balance of everything and yet it is everything. thesis is an exploration of an intuition of ur idea of matter.

    1. the approach of ur thesis should be based on ur concept and your concept should be your answer to your thesis. so if you did not see the concept how can it be a concept? i dun even wanna ask what do u mean by vague concept.
    2. the emphasis should be on how much we answer your thesis. we are not doing working drawings. but nevertheless it should be workable. due to LAM accreditation dis year, its the lecturers internal strategies to make sure we make it to LAMs list.
    3. beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder? haha...no seriously...employ renderers in time of need. but that said, i ve seen some great perspectives but with less meat in it. u noe what i mean? its all in the eyes of your mind whether u wanna see the graphics or substance.
    4. more explorations and various solutions, as with all designs.

*bear in mind, we can plan time but not our intuition. enjoy exploring!
